Family history and other researchers will still be able to use the archives while Redfern’s Cottage, Museum of Uttoxeter life is closed for nine months whilst it undergoes refurbishment before a new, exciting museum and cafe opens in Spring 2017.
As part of the refurbishment, many of the items in the archives have been digitised. All the photographs have been returned so we now have access to them again after being away for a few months. The books and documents have also been returned so we are now in the process of archiving them in the correct storage and implementing our new archive procedure relating to this. These are exciting times and new discoveries are still being made, so we still get distracted!
Despite this, the Redfern’s Cottage archives will still be operating as normal. The archives have now been moved to a temporary home until the museum re-opens and we are still able to help you in your research as normal on Tuesday mornings 9.30-12.30. Please note any visits MUST be pre-booked as we are based in a private residence. Our contact details are firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 01889567176 and we will respond within a few days.
